F.R.E.E.D.
Female Re-Enactors of Distinction
The F.R.E.E.D. (Female RE-Enactors of Distinction) is a group of ladies who desire to teach American history that perhaps has been forgotten or overlooked by the public educational system, the theatre and motion picture industry, and many social organizations around the country. They are an auxiliary of the African American Civil War Museum in Washington, DC.
Marcia has chosen to tell the life story of Charlotte Scott, a freed woman of Virginia who is remembered in history as ‘a friend of Lincoln’. Thankful for the freedom the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Lincoln assured, when she learned of his assassination, she suggested that a monument be raised to this great man. Charlotte Scott's name can be seen on the monument's plaque along with that of President Lincoln.
